Pengalaman Jaga Anak Semasa Anwar Dipenjara, Cukup Untuk Jadi Menteri Besar - Kak Wan

Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said today she understands the pains and sacrifices it takes to become a leader, in a veiled retort to those who have claimed she is unfit to become the next Selangor Menteri Besar.

Forced yet again to defend her bid to take on the coveted post, the usually soft-spoken Dr Wan Azizah told the opening of PKR’s national congress that her being a woman should not be used as an “excuse” to deny her a leadership role.

"I understand and am familiar with the pains of leading, whether as a leader of a new organisation just 15 years old now and as the head of a family when Anwar was jailed for six years," the PKR president said in her opening address, referring to her husband Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

She said that character, capability and integrity should be the only criteria to choose a leader, and this should be applied across the board whether on a party, state or national level.

"Gender, age and looks (as a criteria to choose a leader) are just mere excuses," she added.
