ROYAL CAR ENTHUSIAST: Money will be channelled back to the people, says ruler
JOHOR BARU: THE Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, said he did not mind paying RM748,000 for the most sought-after plate number --W1N-- as he knew that the amount paid would be channelled back to the people.
"The people will benefit from it. So, the amount paid is small compared with the benefits that the people will reap," he said when met at Istana Pasir Pelangi here.
He said he had placed a bid for the number through the proper channel, that is via the Road Transport Department.
"I was told that there were a number of interested bidders for W1N.
I do not mind paying for the plate number because I know that the amount paid will be channelled back to the rakyat."
"I am not the type who skips procedures to get things my way. It is the 'Johor-style' to pay for what we want because everyone should have a fair chance and like the saying goes -- only the best man wins."
Sultan Ibrahim, who is a well-known car enthusiast with many limited editions of cars in his collection, fitted the W1N number plate to his Proton Suprima S, a five-door compact hatchback.
The W2N number plate went for RM92,229 while W11N and W14N were allotted for the government, according to a RTD list.
In May last year, Sultan Ibrahim won the tender for WWW 1.
