KLANG: Selangor residents today said they were open to having a Pas assemblyman as Selangor Menteri Besar.
A group of about 100 Selangorians gathered at the junction of Jalan Raja Jumaat, here, and voiced their opposition against PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail becoming MB as she was not a Selangorian.
Hushim Salleh, a member of non-governmental organisation Waris Malaya, said he fully supported a Pas candidate to helm the state.
"It does not matter which Pas assemblyman as long as the individual has the capability and integrity.
"I do not agree with a PKR candidate because they were insolent to the Sultan," he told reporters, here, today. He added that Pas Selangor commissioner Iskandar Abdul Samad was a good choice for the role of MB because he was head of Pas in the state.
Grassroots Action Based Selangor (Grabs) vice president Hanafiah Hussain said he preferred Youth and Sports, Infrastructure and Public Facilities Committee chairman Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi to be appointed as Menteri Besar.
"I think Ahmad Yunus can be MB. He has shown his capability in managing the water crisis," he said.
Meanwhile, Pertubuhan Kebajikan Melayu Klang chairman Datuk Abdul Rahim Ibrahim said Dr Wan Azizah was not fit to be MB as she did not have the ability to govern a state.
He added that it was evident that PKR had been disrespectful by submitting only one nomination to the Sultan, although His Highness had requested for more than two names.
He also asserted that there were many other eligible Selangor-born male candidates who could fill the role.
"If possible, the Menteri Besar should be a Selangor local.
"A Selangorian would understand the wishes of Selangor residents and the Sultan," he said.
The group of assorted NGOs intermittently chanted "Daulat Tuanku" for about half an hour by the roadside, attracting the attention of road users and passersby.
