SHAH ALAM, Sept 3 — All three Pakatan Rakyat (PR) parties have submitted their respective mentri besar candidates lists to the Selangor palace, which Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim said today is expected to decide on the matter “as soon as possible”.
The outgoing mentri besar also said that he will not participate in the decision-making process as it would be a conflict of interest.
“I believe the next process is for the palace to respond to the nominations,” Khalid told a packed press conference after chairing the state's weekly executive councillor meeting here.
“I think it will be as soon as possible,” when asked how much time the Selangor Sultan needs to make the decision.
PKR and the DAP have stuck with its decision to solely nominate Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail for the post despite the Sultan's request for each parties to submit more than one.
It is understood that PAS is defying its agreement with PKR and DAP for a single name submission and has nominated two names instead — Dr Wan Azizah and her deputy Azmin Ali.
Khalid also refused today to be drawn into speculation on whether the palace intends to dissolve the state legislative assembly and hold elections.
He said this is entirely up to the Sultan.
“The palace will decide. I don’t want to say anything as it could lead to speculation”.
There has been talk the Selangor ruler could decide to call for snap polls in the state if he is dissatisfied with PR’s Menteri Besar choices.
