PETALING JAYA, Dec 6 — Four men who caught a youth stealing from a mosque’s donation box admitted beating him up, police said yesterday.
The youth, 20, died after the assault.
Ampang police chief ACP Amiruddin Jamaluddin said four men — two Malaysians and two foreigners aged between 19 and 39 — admitted using a piece of wood to beat up the youth after he was caught stealing from the donation box on Wednesday.
“The four were detained the same day after police interviewed witnesses and checked closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage.
Shahrizal Petra, the son of a former MP, was handed over to police after he was caught stealing.
Shahrizal, who was badly injured, was admitted to the intensive care unit of Ampang Hospital at 7am but died five hours later.
Amiruddin said a post-mortem found the death was caused by blunt force trauma.
