Selepas Terima Watikah MB Selangor : Anwar Jumpa Azmin 2 Jam
PKR gives Azmin last minute endorsement as MB
PKR deputy president Azmin Ali has received unanimous endorsement from his party to become the new Selangor Menteri Besar, upon receiving an appointment letter from the Selangor palace today.
Azmin confirmed to reporters at the PKR headquarters in Tropicana that the party leadership had agreed to endorse him as MB after a two-hour meeting with PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim, party president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and other party leaders.
"I am grateful that the sultan had consented for me to become MB. The party had unanimously decided to endorse my candidacy as MB," he said.
When asked if he knew what was the reason party president Wan Azizah's candidacy was rejected, he merely said: "No reason was given."
The letter was received this evening and the Bukit Antarabangsa assemblyperson confirmed that he will be sworn-in tomorrow morning.
Contacted by Malaysiakini, the Selangor sultan's private secretary Mohamad Munir Bani confirmed that the appointment letter had been sent out.
'Long live Azmin'
Azmin earlier finished meeting Anwar Ibrahim and Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail at about 7.30pm.
Anwar and Wan Azizah left the headquarters to attend a Pakatan Rakyat leadership council meeting at the DAP headquarters in Kuala Lumpur but Azmin stayed on at the PKR headquarters till 8.15pm.
Clad in white and appearing calm, he walked out to chants of "Hidup Azmin" (Long live Azmin) from his supporters.
Anwar earlier did not say anything apart from disclosing that the meeting was "positive enough" and that a statement is expected to be issue by the party soon.
However, all three of them smiled for the cameras as they left the meeting venue.
